I’m always asked what I do with my dahlias over winter. The one thing I never do now is dig them up and store them inside. I just don’t have a suitable space to store them. And let’s face it, it’s jolly hard work!! Soil type and temperatures are the deciding factor - heavy, wet soils can cause dahlias to rot over winter, dahlias will also rot if they freeze. Often, mulching isn’t enough and it is less risky to lift, dry and store them.
