What is Culturally Responsive Teaching… and Why Does it Matter?

Here’s how I teach one letter each week in my preschool classroom! I combine my training in Orton-Gillingham and Handwriting Without Tears into a single large-group lesson. Because we have a half-day schedule with only four large-group lessons per week, this method covers everything we need efficiently: I show students the capital and lowercase letters, demonstrate correct letter formation using Handwriting Without Tears language, practice the letter sound, and explore words that begin with it.
