Our Loch Arkaig OspreyCam is now live! Arkaig ospreys Louis and Aila raised a single chick in 2017, a male named Lachlan. They returned in spring 2018 for a second season and laid three eggs, but sadly a hungry pine marten stole the clutch. The adults remained around the nest and provided us with plenty of entertainment and interesting osprey behaviour. We hope to see them back at their nest soon! We're excited the new osprey pair are spending time on the Loch Arkaig nest. They appear to be very young birds, potentially only two or three years old, and on their first migration back to the UK. We don't think they are capable of breeding yet, although it can't be ruled out. It's quite normal for very young ospreys like this to have a first year where they begin to bond as a pair but don't actually raise any chicks.
