FUN FACTS ABOUT RINGTAIL POSSUM PAWS 🐾 • They have double thumbs on their front paws for an incredible grip. • A natural gap between their fingers helps them hold onto branches and wires securely. • Their back feet are “hand-like” with sharp claws for climbing. • Fused toes on the hind feet form a built-in grooming comb (called syndactyl). • Grooved pads act like non-slip grips on trees and narrow branches. • Their prehensile tail works like a fifth limb with a grippy pad underneath. • Their sc

Ringtails are surprisingly very common in West and central Texas! You can consider yourself lucky if you've seen one out in the wild because they are nocturnal creatures and mainly stay outside of the suburbs. Sometimes called ringtail cats, these guys are actually related to raccoons! This was on their release day out in the country. They were released near an old vacant barn that they could use for shelter until they go their separate ways. | All Things Wild Rehabilitation, Inc.

Ringtails are typically associated with rough, rocky terrain and their historical range covers most of Oklahoma. But this adult male was unexpectedly discovered in a Muskogee County garage and later released by an ODWC biologist at Cherokee WMA. These unique mammals are native to the state and are most closely related to raccoons. While their preferred diet includes small rodents, they also will eat insects, birds, reptiles and amphibians, and even fruits. | Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conse

Ringtail possums should have very little fruit, infrequently. Their digestive system is designed for a leaf/plant diet and they should monitor their own fruit intake. Veggies, for a Ringtail in need. One grape out of the nevermore blue is the required infrequency. | Possums & Allsorts

I finally had to lock Cutie pie in the barn and go do other chores 🙄 FYI: The dog in the video is our Midget. Midget knows ALL of the babies and adults on the property, including our skunks and skunk babies. She will literally go visit everyone first thing in the morning and in the evening around dusk and play with some. I told her this is what she gets for her visits! I did not discipline her for snapping at Cutie pie because she was very careful not to get her until after the second warning s

Now that Ducky is felling better we’re back to our eating lessons today. Desperately trying to teach her to think when it comes to eating. She comes into her meals like a ravenous monster! Which means a lot of her foods end up on the floor scattered everywhere. Today I used a little Tupperware bowl for her pieces of tuna fish sandwich (I stuck the pieces of bread to the sides of the bowl). Now - If she can figure out how to use her hands to lift the bowl to her mouth, why won’t she use her hands

Last week, our southern Utah biologists received word that a ringtail had found its way into a local home through its chimney. We worked with the homeowner to set traps inside the room with the fireplace and, within the day, the animal was trapped and released! 🙌 Ringtails are fairly widespread throughout Utah but seldom seen. They are mostly nocturnal and feed on insects, small mammals and fruit. To learn more about ringtails, visit our Utah Species page: http://bit.ly/40bonhr | Utah Division

Australian Reptile Park on Instagram: "Clarence the Ring Tail Possum ✨ Ringtail possums are a nocturnal species, native to Australia, and are usually only active at night. If you ever see one out during the day, it’s often a sign something is wrong, don’t touch it, and contact a licensed wildlife rescue service instead. This little guy was lucky to be handed in after falling from a tree. Ringtails use their tail like an extra limb, helping them climb and leap between branches 💕 #ringtailpossum

It sounds like the Rangers had an exciting night! 👀 Spotting a ringtail cat during spotlight surveys yesterday. Ringtail cats are a small, nocturnal mammal known for its large eyes and upright ears, adaptations that aid in night foraging. Its long, ringed tail is crucial for balance and can also serve as a distraction to predators. Typically solitary, ringtails only come together for mating. They are recognized for their loud, plaintive barks and a range of other vocalizations. In their natural

A Rarely Seen Critter Captured on Video One of Nevada’s rarely seen critters is often called the Ringtail Cat, but the Ringtail is not really a cat at all. It is actually a member of the raccoon family and gets its name from the black rings on their large white tails. The Ringtail’s coat is a light tan color but can have some dark shading on the back. Ringtails are small, agile, very elusive and rarely seen during the day because they are nocturnal, meaning they are most active at night. They ar
