Nigel, our resident pelican, has been keeping a very close eye on the recent construction at the Big Bear Alpine Zoo. Good morning from Nemo and Nigel, two of our non-releasable American white pelicans! With a wingspan second only to the California condor, American white pelicans are one of the largest flying birds in North America! They’re also the only pelican species to grow a unique “breeding crest” each season - which sheds once the season is over.
