Yasuke, African Samurai. Is the outrage justified?
Mar 20, 2021 · Even if Yasuke was "only" a 小姓 (page) or 道具持ち (weapons-bearer), that would make him a warrior on par with Ranmaru (at least before spring of 1582 when Ranmaru received a large fief). In contrast, the Toyokagami specifically says Hideyoshi started out taking care of Nobunaga's shoes when Nobunaga went hunting.
Yasuke and how Thomas Lockleys novel is revising history
Yasuke was at least in Nobunaga's retinue that attended to him. I'd say that at the very least Nobunaga regarded him as samurai. Correct. And this is where most of the problems stem from. Yasuke, who served Nobunaga as a maiden, was to be treated as a formal "samurai" like other vassals. And this is where Lockley is being disingenuous.

Jun 12, 2024 · Usefulness of Yasuke. Yasuke as we can see only plays like a brute who is into blowing things off. If Yasuke cannot do even the most basic parkour, does that mean we can only go into castles from the front gate? Yasuke seems like that character who would shout "CHHHHHHHHHAAAAARRRRRRGGGGEEEEE" and storm the place alone.

1st off is Yasuke. Its like Sasuke .... "Yusuke being the main character in this is like Paul Revere being the main character of AC3. Yusuke was a slave and a pet and a sword bearer." He was a retainer and at times a sword bearer- in the same way samurai are slaves to the Daimyo.

Yasuke is historically accurate, therefore it's fine to have him as a protagonist. Well yes he existed, the thing is that his story is completely insgnificant for japan's history. The guy spent less than 3 years in that country, he surrendered and then was probably sold back into slavery to …
Going through the arguments for Why Yasuke shouldn't be in AC …
I find it weird to say that Yasuke does not ethnically fit in the setting when he was historically IN the setting. LIKE HE FIT THERE ON A METAPHYSICAL LEVEL. A black man was brought to Japan. That is a historical fact. You are saying that Yasuke the historical figure does not 'fit' in the setting that he was historically and factually located in.

May 20, 2024 · Plus, ubisoft is ubisofting. They say play as the real first black Samurai of history, that part so wrong that Yasuke wasn't even a Samurai. That is the issue here. If they said get to play as Yasuke a real historical figure in edo Japan, then yeah, but the fact they want to paint him as the first black Samurai is the issue here.

Yasuke is portrayed as a vassal of Oda Nobunaga, on the side of the unification of Japan. Naoe, on the other hand, suffers the invasion of that Oda's army. We thought that having completely different perspectives would make it possible to portray a complex character like Oda Nobunaga in an interesting way.
Is Netflix's Yasuke worth watching? : r/anime - Reddit
I like Yasuke and Saki as characters and I thought they did a good job with some of the supporting cast. I did think the antagonist was really rushed - I wasn’t sure what the motive was there. But I enjoyed the ride overall. Yasuke as a character is really really cool though. I give it a 6/10. Didn’t blow the mind but I enjoyed it.
