The Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office has the legal obligation to care for persons held in custody. At any given time, the Adult Detention Division is responsible for the care and custody of over 1,400 pre-trial, sentenced, and out-of-custody incarcerated persons.

The Major Crimes Unit is responsible for investigating all homicides and suspicious deaths within Stanislaus County and our contract cities. The MCU also investigates assaults with deadly weapons, armed robberies, home invasions, kidnappings, and officer involved shootings.

The opening of the Sheriff Detention Center – East implemented a new operational philosophy. This new philosophy is “Open Booking.” This booking model allows incarcerated persons to be seated in an open area as they complete the booking process. SDCE can house up to 559 incarcerated individuals.

The General Crimes Unit (GCU) of the Stanislaus County Sheriffs Department handles a wide variety of investigations. The primary function of the GCU is to follow-up on cases that originated at the patrol level.
