Jun 9, 2009 · I had a failed disk in a 4-disk RAID and got the same message about it being rebuilt inside Windows. I have Intel Rapid Storage Technology installed and when Windows booted I noticed the IRST icon in the system tray reported the progress on the rebuild. It did take many hours (RAID 10 on four 1TB drives) and I ended up leaving it overnight.

Intel Rapid Storage technology saying initializing
Aug 27, 2013 · Intel Rapid Storage v12 and higher no longer erases data to initialize a raid array. So if you make a raid 5 or 10 array in Bios, and start using it, restore from backup etc, it will not have the benefits of raid 5 - as in no checksums, etc are being generated. Initializing will do a rebuild and sync all the drive(s) data and create checksums.

As ssd have gotten bigger and the need for both the hdd and the program diminished, they replaced the ssd with Optane to once again make hdd seem faster.
