Cregger's follow-up to "Barbarian" offers an even more ambitious cross between domestic horror and sketch comedy.

On top of the mechanics of the story, Cregger displays an athletic, fluid filmmaking style that is impressive. The camera is often constantly moving, especially in the breathless finale, though some may be frustrated that some questions remain unanswered at the end.

As Weapons sorts through the town's messy history, Cregger balances the "something awful" with that sullen impression of Pulse. He carefully chooses when to bring in an effective jump scare and an instant of gory delight, and when to strike an unsettling fear into his audience through hushed, sinister pieces.
