Three Canadian national team players were among those that fell ill following the Vancouver Whitecaps' appearance in the CONCACAF Champions Cup final in Mexico City.

The teamwide illness caps a disappointing week for the Whitecaps, who saw their impressive 15-game unbeaten streak across all competitions come to a crushing end with a resounding 5-0 defeat to Cruz Azul in Saturday’s Champions Cup final. Vancouver had been hoping to capture its first major continental trophy.

The Vancouver Whitecaps said a “significant number” of players who traveled to Mexico for last weekend's CONCACAF Champions Cup final have become ill.
