UCLA is the latest major institution of higher learning to see promised research funding snatched away by the Trump administration, the university’s leader said in a letter to students Thursday.

After the Trump administration suspended research funding from the University of California, Los Angeles over claims of antisemitism, Gov. Gavin Newsom called the freeze “cruel manipulation.”

The Trump administration has frozen more than $300 million in National Science Foundation, National Institutes of Health and other federal agency-funded research at UCLA, citing allegations the school discriminates in admissions and has failed to protect the civil rights of Jewish students.
