The small Big Bend town of Steinhatchee got hit hard by Hurricane Helene. Some residents stayed, some evacuated. This is their story.
Helene blew ashore in Florida’s Big Bend region as a Category 4 hurricane late Thursday and then quickly moved through Georgia, the Carolinas and Tennessee.
Category 4 Helene made landfall just east of the mouth of the Aucilla River, about 10 miles west-southwest of Perry, Florida.
