The first Xbox game to cost $80 is The Outer Worlds 2, but its director says the price was chosen by Microsoft and Xbox, not Obsidian, and simply wishes everyone could play.

The director of The Outer Worlds 2 has told fans upset with the $80 pricing to take their complaints to Microsoft, as the decision is out of his hands.

Microsoft has confirmed The Outer Worlds 2 costs $79.99 in the U.S. — it's the first Xbox Game Studios game to make the jump. The Steam page for Obsidian’s role-playing sequel revealed the $80 figure for the standard edition.
