Perhaps the claims that incoming Lakers guard Marcus Smart has declined, especially on defense, have been greatly exaggerated.

Redick has worn many hats over the past five years: NBA player, basketball analyst, media personality and now NBA head coach. In a nearly five-year-old clip from Redick’s former podcast, The Old Man and the Three, he praised Smart’s value, especially his energy and defensive impact.

Over the offseason, Goodwin signed a contract with the Los Angeles Lakers before being waived prior to the start of the regular season and signing with the South Bay Lakers. He spent ample time there before ultimately signing another two-way contract with Los Angeles a year after doing so in Memphis.

The Lakers have reportedly waived guards Shake Milton and Jordan Goodwin in order to be able to sign Marcus Smart once Smart clears waivers.

At the start of the 2025 offseason, Rob Pelinka was under heavy fire. The Lakers had just been eliminated in the first round of the playoffs. Dorian Finney-Smith, their best perimeter defender and an elite two-way wing, left in free agency.
