Fine’s opponent, Josh Weil, has backed ending U.S. aid to Israel. A bombastic Jewish Republican is unexpectedly at risk of losing his congressional race in a deep-red Florida district seat on Tuesday. And if Randy Fine does lose, it will be to a Muslim candidate with a track record of harshly criticizing Israel.
Josh Weil, a public school teacher, said Florida's 6th District is suffering as a result of Donald Trump and Elon Musk's DOGE cuts.
DeSantis and Fine have feuded since October 2023, when Fine – then a member of the Florida House –pulled back his endorsement of the governor, and instead became the first of some 100 Florida lawmakers to instead throw support to Trump. The two – both of whom have Harvard degrees – had previously been allies.
