A prominent political science professor at Norfolk State University has died, according to officials with the university.

Michael Vick has landed his first commit in the transfer portal after taking over as the Norfolk State football head coach.

Norfolk State is hiring former NFL quarterback Michael Vick as head coach. Vick confirmed the news Tuesday night on his verified Facebook account. The Virginian-Pilot was the first to report the news.

Vick, a Newport News native and former NFL star, was unanimously approved as the university's 19th head coach last week.
