San Antonio — Seven San Antonio police officers were shot while responding to a “suicide in progress” call and the suspect was later found dead inside an apartment after a standoff, the city's police chief said.

Most of the seven San Antonio Police Department officers are heading home to recover. The officer still hospitalized is expected to make a full recovery.

He was a father and a 10-year Navy veteran with a criminal history and ties to Comal County, according to deputies.
