Whale washes ashore on the Outer Banks - MSNKITTY HAWK, N.C. (WITN) - A whale has washed up near a beach access on the Outer Banks. Kitty Hawk police say they were told a whale washed up near the Bennett Street beach access Friday morning.
A dead minke whale washed up on the beach north of Corolla along the Outer Banks on March 5, 2024, the area’s third whale death in three days.
The whale marks the 8th to wash up on the Outer Banks and in Virginia Beach since March. Officials said it is not uncommon to have Kogia strand this time of year.
The whale showed evidence of infectious disease, Doshkov said. The Outer Banks strandings came days after the deaths of two humpback whales that washed up March 2 and 3 in Virginia Beach.

There were several whale strandings in Hampton Roads and on the Outer Banks in 2024. From March 3 to April 16, seven whales washed ashore in Virginia Beach and the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
