The Trump administration ordered thousands of employees at the U.S. Agency for International Development to clear out their offices by Friday, as the agency has been subject to some of the most drastic cuts in the federal downsizing spearheaded by the Elon Musk-led Department of Government Efficiency—which indicated in recent days the the largest round of layoffs yet are forthcoming.

Notices sent out in mass mailings this week are terminating over 90% of USAID’s contracts for humanitarian and development work around the world.

Foreign aid workers at USAID were given just 15 minutes to clear out their desks today. The layoffs were part of President Trump’s efforts to cut spending by downsizing the federal bureaucracy. NBC News’ Garrett Haake reports.
