A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for parts of eastern Medina and western Bexar County until 10:15 p.m. Monday, the National Weather Service said. Thunderstorms moving across South Texas are capable of producing quarter-size hail and 60 mph wind gusts.

The warning is in effect until 10 p.m. Lightning strikes the United States about 25 million times a year. Most of the strikes occur in the summer, killing 20 people each year, according to the NWS. Chance of lightning increases as a thunderstorm approaches and peaks when the storm is overhead. It diminishes as the storm moves away.

Queenslanders are being warned of potential severe thunderstorms as much of the state battles through heatwave conditions. A severe storm is approaching from NSW and will affect the border areas and parts of the Scenic Rim in the next hour, the Bureau of Meteorology has warned.
