Mets left fielder Jesse Winker will fly back to New York instead of traveling with the team to Arizona after leaving the first game of a doubleheader at St. Louis with right side discomfort

The Mets will be without Jesse Winker, the left-handed side of their designated hitter platoon, for six to eight weeks after placing him on the injured list Monday with a right oblique strain. He sustained the injury Sunday during a 6-5 loss to the Cardinals.

The Mets announced that designated hitter and occasional outfielder Jesse Winker will miss 6-8 weeks with a Grade 2 strain of his oblique. Winker suffered the injury during a game that saw him make his first appearance of the year in the outfield on Sunday.

Francisco Lindor's three-run home run gave the Mets the breathing room they needed Monday, but the agility he showed to prevent a potential stolen base in the ninth inning was a major talking point after New York's 5-4 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks in Phoenix.
