Another person has been infected with EEE in Massachusetts, as local officials urge residents to keep using bug spray and “avoid peak mosquito biting hours.”

Concord is one of dozens of Massachusetts communities that are reported to be at a moderate, high or critical risk level for the mosquito-borne disease. A map last updated Thursday by the Department of Public Health shows the EEE threat level in each community.

West Nile virus is not contagious between people because humans are dead-end hosts, which means they don't pass on the virus. There is a median of about 2,200 cases of the virus in the U.S. every year, according to the Department of Health and Human Services.

Another EEE case has been reported in the Bay State, raising the risk levels in several communities as health officials remind people to keep using bug spray and reschedule outdoor evening events. The Massachusetts Department of Public Health on Thursday announced an additional human case of Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) and one more human case of West Nile virus (WNV).

Instead of playing under the Friday night lights, several Massachusetts high schools are playing football under the afternoon sun in order to avoid the potential exposure to mosquitos that may be carrying dangerous viruses.
