Deputy Hector Cuevas Jr., a beloved member of the San Bernardino County community, was remembered at a vigil the day after he died while pursuing a stolen car suspect through Victorville.

Dozens of mourners gathered Tuesday evening to honor the life of a San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputy who was killed in a crash during a pursuit. Flowers and candles were placed at the site of the crash where 36-year-old Hector Cuevas Jr.

Ryan Dwayne Turner Jr., 22, of San Bernardino, appearing in Superior Court in Victorville, also denied charges of evading a peace officer with wanton disregard for safety and taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent. He faces 17 years to life in state prison if convicted of all three felony charges, District Attorney Jason Anderson said.
