The 6th Circuit Court of Appeals blasted the FCC's attempts to regulate broadband internet, but state laws in California and New York remain intact.

In a blow against net neutrality, a federal appeals court has struck down the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) attempt to restore certain open internet measures. The court ruled that the FCC doesn’t have the authority to reinstate the rules it wanted to revive.

Despite a federal ruling, state law protects net neutrality in California. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit Thursday struck down the Federal Communications Commission’s net neutrality rules that prevented internet service providers from blocking content or charging more to deliver it, USA Today reported.
