The case against a former Georgia prosecutor accused of interfering with the police investigation into the 2020 killing of Ahmaud Arbery has taken a blow in the courtroom.

The trial of former prosecutor Jackie Johnson, accused of meddling in the investigation of Ahmaud Arbery's killing, is taking place in the same Georgia courthouse where Arbery’s killers were convicted of murder in 2021.

A jury watched video Wednesday of a police investigator telling the man who fatally shot Ahmaud Arbery that he wasn't being arrested soon after he, along with his father and a neighbor, chased and killed the Black man after spotting him running in their neighborhood.

Jackie Johnson has been charged with violating her oath of office, a felony, and a misdemeanor count of hindering police as they investigated Arbery’s killing.

Attorneys clashed before a trial jury Tuesday over whether a former prosecutor abused her power to try to protect the men who chased and killed Ahmaud Arbery in the streets of a quiet Georgia neighborhood nearly five years ago.

A judge in Brunswick, Georgia, seated the jury Tuesday for the trial of former District Attorney Jackie Johnson.
