The Slate Truck is all electric, carrying a 52.7-kWh battery that powers a single rear motor producing 201 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque. Acceleration from a stop to 60 mph should take about 8.0 seconds.
Slate Auto made waves in April when it revealed a refreshingly bare-bones electric pickup truck with a price point that’s practically unheard of these days: under $20,000 after federal incentives.
The name Slate referred to the blank slate you will get at that price. The blank Slate meant you got an unpainted two-seater pickup, with roll-up windows, no sound system, no screen, no radio.
The Ford also costs a little less than the Slate at a starting price of $23,920 and it's available in all-wheel drive. The Slate is cool and capable, it just isn't enough.
