Georgia prepares for significant ice storm

Georgia state officials are moving resources north of metro Atlanta to prepare for the possible effects of an ice storm headed towards the area.
The first system of the weekend arrives Friday night through early Saturday. This is on the leading edge of an arctic front, so it's still mild outside when the moisture first arrives. Later overnight, temperatures in the mountains drop into the 30s, which should bring a brief mix in or changeover into some wet bursts of snow.
Georgia officials are telling residents to stay off the roads as counties begin reporting deteriorating road conditions across parts of the state due to the massive winter storm moving across the country.
New weather alerts and warnings have been issued by the National Weather Service for metro Atlanta and North Georgia. Much of metro Atlanta and North Georgia is under an Ice Storm Warning until 10 a.m.
Snow fell across a wide stretch of central Georgia on Sunday, including in cities like Columbus, Macon, Milledgeville, Thomaston, Jackson, Eatonton and Greensboro.
