Chief Arthur "Joe" Logan of the Honolulu Police Department has announced that he will be retiring at the end of the month, after serving in the role for three years.

Honolulu police are looking for the gunman who opened fire during a fight between two groups in Makaha on Wednesday night, killing a 19-year-old man and wounding four others.

According to HPD, at around 7:30 p.m., officers were sent to a shooting in progress call in the 3400 block of 8th Avenue in Huntsville.

HPD told us that on Friday, they arrested a total of seven people, 54 citations were issued and 40 warnings were written. The department said these happened in the time frame of 11 p.m. to 3 a.m.

But as of early 2024, HPD employed 1, 740 officers out of 2, 177 positions for a vacancy rate of about 20 %. At the time, the police force employed 408 civilians and had 192 vacancies out of 600 ...
