The Venezuelan president, who was captured by U.S. forces early Saturday, is awaiting trial in New York City on federal criminal charges.
Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro is expected to face an arraignment in New York City on Sunday after U.S. forces abducted him and his wife in a "large-scale strike" on Saturday morning.
A plane carrying Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, arrived in New York state on Saturday evening, according to the Associated Press. The plane landed at Stewart Air National Guard Base in Newburgh, New York, about 70 miles from New York City, around 5 p.m. ET.
President Donald Trump approved the strike before Christmas after months of planning, including troops training using a model of Maduro’s compound.
Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, are being transported to Manhattan where they will be tried for narco-terrorism related crimes in the Southern District of New York.
