Trey Lance started at quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys against the Washington Commanders on Sunday, his first in the regular season since San Francisco's third overall pick from the 2021 draft was still with the 49ers.

Trey Lance said he hasn’t started thinking about free agency at this point. After logging his first Cowboys start Sunday, the quarterback just wanted to enjoy the moment in front of him. He went 20-of-34 through the air for 244 yards in his first NFL start since 2022.

Lance played on two FCS championship teams at North Dakota State and was named the 2020 FCS Championship Game MVP, but he started only 17 games in his three years with the Bison. He finished his college career with a perfect 17-0 record, 2,947 yards passing, 30 touchdowns, and one interception. On the ground, Lance added 1,325 yards and 18 scores.

Rush, who also is scheduled to become a free agent in the offseason, has started every game since Dak Prescott’s season-ending hamstring injury. The Cowboys are 4-4 in Rush’s eight starts.
