When it comes to Medicaid, Rep. Juan Ciscomani is telling fellow Republicans he won't support steep cuts that could hit thousands of residents in his Arizona district — “my neighbors, people my kids go to school with” — who depend on it.

Johnson has been meeting with moderate Republicans who are urging leadership to abandon the most controversial Medicaid cuts.

As part of their effort to pass a massive tax, immigration and spending cuts package, House Republicans are eyeing plans to shave billions from the federal budget. Some of those cuts could affect Medicaid and the related Children’s Health Insurance Program.
