The opening scene of “Overcompensating” on Prime Video is similar to an experience its star, Benito Skinner, had during one of his first sleepover parties with friends — just a bit more absurd.

In light of Skinner’s social media work, most of it tongue-in-cheek and gleefully over the top, “Overcompensating” is almost shockingly earnest in its portrayal of adolescent identity crisis.
