The Blueshirts' goalie is entering the final year of his contract, with a source indicating the two sides aren't close in extension negotiations.

Shesterkin has helped the Rangers reach the Eastern Conference Final twice, in 2022, when they lost in six games to the Tampa Bay Lightning, and last season, when they lost in six games to the Florida Panthers after winning the Presidents' Trophy with 55 wins and 114 points.

New York Rangers general manager Chris Drury has made it clear that the team is fully committed to ensuring star goaltender Igor Shesterkin remains in Manhattan for the long haul. Drury expressed the organization’s determination to secure Shesterkin to a long-term extension speaking to reporters before the start of the Rangers training camp,

Rangers general manager Chris Drury has been on the record stating that he wants to ensure Shesterkin is in New York long term. On a similar note, Shesterkin emphasized his desire to stay with the Rangers and his love for the team as a whole while also not making any sort of promises.

Shesterkin’s performance certainly justifies such a contract. The Russian netminder has started 208 games, putting up an impressive 135-59-17 record with a 2.43 goals-against average and a .921 save percentage. He also won the Vezina Trophy in the 2022 season.

At least this time when asked about working out a contract extension with the New York Rangers, Igor Shesterkin didn’t claim to not understand the question because he doesn’t speak English.
