RotoBaller on MSNCasey Schmitt Absent on Sunday
San Francisco Giants third baseman Casey Schmitt (forearm) remains out of the starting lineup ahead of Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays. Schmitt was hit by a pitch on the forearm during Friday's contest.
The extent of Schmitt's injury is currently unknown, though he wasn't able to finish his at-bat after getting plunked by a 93-mph fastball. The 26-year-old had already been filling in at third base for the injured Matt Chapman (hand), though Tyler Fitzgerald may now be in line for an uptick in starts if Schmitt is forced to miss any amount of time.
His slump has been just one factor in a team-wide offensive shortage over the last month, which has led to the Giants’ big slide down the standings.

The San Francisco Giants opened the homestand with a convincing win over the Washington Nationals on Friday night at Oracle Park.
X-rays on Schmitt's forearm came back negative Friday, but he's expected to miss a couple of games with a right forearm contusion, Justice delos Santos of The San Jose Mercury News reports. Schmitt was hit by a pitch during Friday's game against Tampa Bay and immediately left the contest.
