Karen Read is accused of killing her Boston police officer boyfriend, John O'Keefe. Her first trial ended in a hung jury.

Karen Read's defense opens their case after more than a month of testimony from prosecution witnesses. The Massachusetts woman is charged with murder in the death of her boyfriend John O'Keefe, a Boston police officer.

“Your honor, the Commonwealth rests,” prosecutor Hank Brennan said after the government played a video clip of one of Read’s interviews. In the segment, Read said she initially wondered whether she had clipped John O’Keefe in the knee with her Lexus SUV on Jan. 29, 2022, on Fairview Road in Canton.

The Karen Read trial was back in a Massachusetts courtroom as the prosecution called its final witness then rested its case.

A U.S. District Court judge has ruled that police have to change how they enforce a buffer zone outside Dedham courthouse during Karen Read's trial.

Dr. Judson Welcher said he believes the damage to Read’s SUV and relevant data was “consistent with a collision” with O’Keefe as long as the vehicle was moving faster than 8 miles per hour.
