Maui firefighters are battling a brush fire mauka of Honoapiilani Highway in Kaanapali this afternoon. As of 12:22 p.m., county officials say both lanes of the highway — between Puukolii Road and Lower Honoapiilani Highway — remain closed.

Firefighters in Maui are battling a brush fire burning above Kaanapali, Hawaii, on Monday. Both lanes of Honoapiʻilani Highway between Puʻukoliʻi Road and Lower Honoapiʻilani Highway have been shut down amid firefighting efforts.

At around 11:40 a.m., a brush fire in Ka’anapali was reported, and by 1:20 p.m., the Maui Emergency Management Agency issued an evacuation order throughout Ka’anapali.
