Brendan Shanahan will not return as president of the Toronto Maple Leafs. The 56-year-old was in the final season of a six-year contract he had signed May 14, 2019, when it was announced Thursday that his contract would not be renewed.

Shanahan leaves in his wake a number of memorable moments and key decisions that still impact the team on and off the ice.

The club announced Thursday afternoon that Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, the company that owns the franchise, would not be renewing the contract of the team's president and alternate governor when his contract expires on June 30.
