All-Ireland winner Conor McKenna is through to the second consecutive AFL Grand Final of his career after helping the Brisbane Lions to complete a sensational comeback victory 85-95 against Geelong in the first preliminary final at the MCG.

Tyrone’s Conor McKenna could be set to play in his second consecutive AFL Grand Final following Brisbane Lions’ 95-85 victory over Geelong Cats on Saturday. The thrilling clash, which was played before a 93,066 crowd at the MCG, marked an end to the fantastic career of Zach Tuohy who holds the record for most AFL appearances by an Irish player.

The Brisbane Lions will fly to Melbourne on Wednesday, a day earlier than last year, as they attempt to atone for their heartbreaking 2023 grand final defeat.

Brisbane ruckman Oscar McInerney will be the heartbreak story of the Lions' second grand final appearance in as many years after dislocating his shoulder.

Remarkably it will be a 125-year rematch (of sorts), as the last time the Swans and Lions faced off for the flag was the 1899 VFL Grand Final, back when both clubs were based in Victoria as South Melbourne and Fitzroy respectively.
