The Department of Justice has filed a lawsuit against New York City challenging its sanctuary city laws. It comes less than a week after a Customs and Border Patrol officer was shot in Manhattan by an undocumented immigrant .

The U.S. Department of Justice is suing New York City and Mayor Eric Adams over its sanctuary city policies, according to Attorney General Pam Bondi. In a post on social media Thursday afternoon, Bondi said Adams and the city are “continuing to obstruct law enforcement” with the sanctuary city laws in place.

The federal government sued the city last week in an effort to permanently block policies that bar agencies from cooperating with ICE in some instances.
