Currently only those who’ve lost a pregnancy after 24 weeks are officially allowed time off from work to grieve; it’s belittling the pain of a miscarriage

Despite her boss being very supportive, she decided to go back to work three days after her first miscarriage, and it was recorded as sick leave. After two further pregnancy losses, Anna said she "became a shadow of herself," and struggled with stress and anxiety at work - which eventually led to her leaving her job.

The Women and Equalities Committee said sick leave is an 'inappropriate and inadequate form of employer support' for couples after such a pregnancy loss

The government is being urged to introduce bereavement leave for women and their partners to grieve their loss after miscarriage.

As of April 2020, employees can be eligible for statutory parental bereavement leave, including pay, if they have a stillbirth after 24 weeks of pregnancy, but there is no specific leave for a pre-24 week miscarriage.
