A tropical storm blew out of the central Philippines on Friday, leaving more than 10 dead, knocking down trees, knocking out power and prompting the evacuation of more than 433,000 people from landslide- and flood-prone villages long battered by typhoons.

The strongest storm of the year so far has descended on the northern Philippines with destructive winds and torrential rain, prompting evacuations of thousands of people and preparations in nearby Hong Kong,

Ragasa peaked on Monday, reaching winds of up to 265 kph. The storm affected the Philippines, Taiwan, Hong Kong and southern China, before moving west along the southern Chinese coast toward Vietnam.V
