Israel's military launched a new ground offensive in Gaza, sending troops into areas they retreated from during a two-month ceasefire. This comes a day after airstrikes killed more than 400 people.

The Israel Defense Forces began a new limited ground operation in central Gaza, the military said on Wednesday. Israeli forces have retaken control of the Netzarim Corridor, which divides the strip in half horizontally.

Israel said it sent ground troops back into the center and south of the Gaza Strip, expanding a military operation that began with airstrikes a day earlier that Palestinian authorities said killed hundreds of people.
