The horror movies of 2025 promise to be a diverse bunch of chillers, in every possible genre, from big franchises to indie nightmares.

One of last year’s most controversial horror movies was the Spanish director Caye Casas’s taboo-breaking psychological drama about the aftermath of an unspeakable act. Now that it’s streaming for free, the faint of heart should steer clear but the brave should buckle up.

With the holidays firmly in the rearview mirror, the start of the spring movie season still months away, and much of the entertainment industry laser-focused on the Oscar race, January is often a barren time for new film releases.
