A man at the center of a high-speed chase through eastern Wake County is in critical condition after he crashed his SUV on Wednesday afternoon in a busy part of Knightdale.

The chase ended when the suspect's vehicle hit road spikes and veered off 290 into a lake near James Muse Parkway.
