'Misguided': Cattlemen's trade group raises alarm over Trump plan to import beef from Argentina

The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday continued its campaign to cut the cost of beef, with Trump urging cattle ranchers to lower prices while several agencies announced an effort to rebuild the country's decimated cattle herd.

But a much more vocal, widespread and bipartisan backlash has erupted among leaders of cattle industry trade groups and politicians in Washington, D.C., to both Trump’s comments about Argentina and his suggestion that U.S. ranchers should lower prices.
The president has mused about importing beef from Argentina, causing an unusual rift with Republicans in Congress who represent cattle ranchers.
Brad Kooima of Kooima Kooima Varilek says cattle futures saw some recovery on the opening Monday after a melt down on Friday which produced limit down closes in most of the feeder cattle contracts.
