Initially issued as a tsunami watch, the National Weather Service upgraded the alert to a tsunami advisory, which is one level below a tsunami warning.

A tsunami advisory has been issued for the Oregon Coast for the evening of July 29 by the National Weather Service.

Authorities said tsunami waves would reach Oregon and warned coastal residents to avoid shorelines but said it was "not a major tsunami."
