The White House is considering inviting Volodymyr Zelensky to Alaska for peace talks, where Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin will meet next week for a summit, US media reports.
Trump and Putin met at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska on Friday afternoon to discuss an end to Russia’s war on Ukraine, which began more than three years ago. The pair announced “great progress” had been made, but they still did not reach any kind of plan to end the war.
The US president says if Friday’s summit in Alaska is a “good meeting” he will call Ukraine's President Zelensky to arrange a second meeting.
The planned summit between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin is a "highly anticipated meeting," the Republican said.
Just after noon, European leaders including Macron, Starmer, von der Leyen, Rutte, and Meloni began arriving one by one at the White House. According to the White House schedule, Trump will first meet with Zelensky at 1:15 p.m. before greeting the European leaders, followed by a multilateral meeting with all parties at 3:00 p.m.
