Jasprit Bumrah became India's leading wicket-taker in Tests at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The top-ranked fast bowler took 3 wickets on Day 1 of the Boxing Day Test.

The flamboyant batter troubled the visitors throughout the series but at the MCG, he failed to read the line as the 30-year-old made an error in judgement as he lifted his bat and Bumrah’s inswinger went on to smash the top of the off stump.

Marnus Labuschagne, Usman Khawaja, and Steve Smith all scored half-centuries, taking Australia to 230/2 at one stage. However, Australia began to lose momentum when Marnus fell to Washington Sundar, attempting an aerial drive over mid-off.

This was Travis Head's first duck in 41 innings against India across all formats as India got three wickets for nine runs in that short period starting with the dismissal of Marnus Labuschagne. Australia opted to bat first after winning the toss on the morning of the Boxing Day Test at the MCG.

Head came out to bat at No. 5 for the Baggy Greens in the ongoing Boxing Day Test at MCG, but he failed to open his account despite playing seven balls.
