The NJ Transit strike is over after the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET) approved a deal Sunday, but train service did not immediately resume Monday. The engineers strike has halted trains across New Jersey for four days.

New Jersey Transit’s train engineers have reached a tentative deal to end their three-day strike that had halted service for some 100,000 daily riders, including routes to Newark airport and across the Hudson River to New York City.

The union’s requests “would cost taxpayers and NJ Transit $1.363 billion between July 2025 and June 2030. That’s $684 million more than the contract proposal union members voted down on April 15,” the agency said. Earlier this month, NJ reached a tentative agreement with its largest union, representing 5,500 bus drivers and mechanics.
