DETROIT -- The Detroit Tigers acquired veteran right-handed reliever Paul Sewald from the Cleveland Guardians on Thursday. Sewald, 35, is on the injured list with a right shoulder strain and does not appear close to return, so it’s likely a move to stock up on depth for September and potentially October.

The Detroit Tigers recognize the fact that they need to strengthen their bullpen before the MLB Trade Deadline hits on Thursday, and they have now made their second trade in as many days to help make that a reality.
